Your skills and gaps
The more prepared you are for your skills recognition assessment, the quicker and easier the process will be. Reflecting on what you are already competent in and in what 'gap' areas you might require further training, will give you a head start.
Remember that you need to find an RTO that will assess and recognise the skills you already have and also train you in the gaps if you want a whole qualification.
Self evaluation tool
You can prepare yourself for meeting your assessor by using the self evaluation tool. This tool helps you to list the skills and experience you think you have and find out which qualifications most closely match it.
Remember that your assessor will want you to explain your skills and they will want you to prove that you have those skills, by providing evidence.
As you find the units of competency you need, you can keep useful notes by filling out the following form (Word document 28KB). This is not your actual assessment application (they are different for every RTO) but it will help you prepare the material the assessor wants from you and will give you a great head start in the assessment process.
| Unit of competency | Your qualifications | Relevant work experience | Relevant life experience | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| List the elements or performance criteria for each unit of competency here | List any qualifications you already have here | List your relevant work experience here | List your relevant life experience here | List your evidence here |
