Skills recognition can help when you are:
- upsizing
- downsizing
- restructuring
- moving into a new market
- looking for win-win staff incentives
Whatever stage of the business cycle you are in, it will be helpful to know the capabilities of your workforce, even those capabilities you have not needed until now.
Skills recognition helps you take stock and to measure the capabilities of your workforce in order to adapt them to changes in your strategic plan.
Skills recognition can help you answer the following questions
- What new or different skills does your business need to make a desired change?
- If recruitment is not the answer, can you retrain existing staff?
But what actually is skills recognition?
Skills recognition is a means of analysing and measuring workforce skills. It can tell you what standards your staff should meet for any particular task and give you the tools to assess whether they are meeting those standards.
You may sometimes hear it referred to as 'recognition of prior learning' or RPL. A more in-depth definition can be found at the what is recognition page.

It's new and improved!
Almost 200 students and employees across New South Wales have helped design the latest version of skillsrecognition.nsw.gov.au.
Part of a study set up in 11 locations, their feedback has simplified and improved how the site works. So it's now even easier for anyone to see how valuable their existing skills are.
