RTO Information
Industry benefits
Skills recognition allows you to measure the gap between the skills you have in your business and the skills you need.
It also means that investment in training can be targeted to the training needs of your organisation and helps you estimate what kind of training will further the goals of your business.
Skills recognition helps you build a skills profile of individual staff, particular teams or even your whole organisation.
How does it work?
To have the skills of your staff measured in this way, you need an assessor from a nationally recognised training provider.
Nationally recognised training providers are known as Registered Training Organisations or RTOs. RTOs include TAFEs, private training providers and community colleges. A few universities are also RTOs.
You could even choose to make your own organisation into an RTO and undertake all your training internally, with the confidence you are meeting national standards.
Once skills have been analysed and measured by the assessor, individual and organisational skills gaps will become clear. You can fill those gaps with training and workforce development or recruitment.
Nationally recognised qualification
Skills recognition means that the skills and knowledge of your staff can be measured and counted towards part, or all, of a nationally recognised qualification or statement of attainment. Some of your staff may even be eligible to be considered for multiple qualifications.
When measuring skills, the assessor will consider:
- on-the-job training
- job role and tasks
- other qualifications from Australia or overseas
- community or voluntary work
- hobbies, sport and leisure activities
Recognition of these skills may allow your staff to acquire either units of competency, 100 per cent recognition of a qualification, or multiple qualifications.
- Consider your competencies
- See qualifications that match
- Find an RTO to assess you
It's new and improved!
Almost 200 students and employees across New South Wales have helped design the latest version of skillsrecognition.nsw.gov.au.
Part of a study set up in 11 locations, their feedback has simplified and improved how the site works. So it's now even easier for anyone to see how valuable their existing skills are.
